01Identify the work type and D-visa need

What to do

Agree the branch with the employer: employment contract, assignment, intra-company transfer, self-employment or another work category. Do not choose tourism for employment. Establish D-visa need under your passport's regime.

Where to go

Employer and competent Serbian consulate

What to prepare

  • Contract/proposal and position/activity description
  • Entry passport and stamped pages
02Obtain employer and qualification evidence

What to do

For ordinary hiring, obtain a signed draft contract, employer registration, job description/systematisation and required diploma with a certified translation. Assignment or transfer uses different foreign-employer records; use that specific checklist section.

Where to go

Employer HR and court interpreter

What to prepare

  • Contract, employer registration, job description and translated qualification
  • Serbian address evidence and owner's consent where applicable
03Submit the employment visa application

What to do

Choose the employment branch in eVisa and reconcile employer name, position, dates and passport. Include the required authorisation if represented. Pay under service/consular instructions and verify submission.

Where to go

eVisa or competent Serbian consulate

What to prepare

  • Entry passport and stamped pages
  • Form, photo, invitation, employment file, fee and authorisation if represented
04Coordinate work start and the subsequent permit

What to do

An issued employment D visa permits work within the applicable rules and visa validity. Check the actual ground, register the address and coordinate employment/insurance registration with the employer. Continuing beyond D requires the single permit, not an arbitrary extension of tourist stay.

Where to go

Employer, host and eForeigner

What to prepare

  • Visa, contract, address and single-permit evidence
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.
