Marked: 0 of 5
01Confirm the residence ground and family situation.

What to do

First identify who is applying and under which ground: the property owner, a family member of the owner, or a person relying on another ground. Owning a home does not replace the application or automatically grant residence. Open “Property owner” on the official page and compare it with your case.

Where to go

Welcome to Serbia: temporary-residence grounds.

What to prepare

  • Applicant’s passport; check name spelling and validity
  • Owner and applicant details; family members separately

First identify your route

  • Property owner in Serbia.
  • Family member of a property owner — the legal ground is checked separately for each person.
  • Housing is available, but the residence ground must be established on another basis.
02Check the property and address documents.

What to do

Check how the property and owner are recorded in the cadastre. Search by address or cadastral parcel number and compare the address and registered holder with your property document. Public access shows basic data; it is not a complete legal due-diligence check.

Where to go

eKatastar/RGZ public search; ask the owner for the property record.

What to prepare

  • Address, cadastral reference and evidence of ownership
03Collect supporting records and prepare translations.

What to do

Prepare your passport and evidence for the ground you selected. For temporary residence, the required attachments depend on the ground and appear in the application after you choose it. A rental agreement is not proof of ownership. If you are applying for a D visa from abroad, use its separate document list; it differs from an in-country residence application.

Where to go

Property-owner checklist in the application; foreign-record requirements from the receiving MUP office.

What to prepare

  • Applicant’s passport; check name spelling and validity
  • Evidence of ownership; other attachments as specified by the selected form
04Book and submit the application to the competent authority.

What to do

Apply through eForeigner: sign in with a supported eID method, start a temporary-residence application, enter your personal details, address and the property-owner ground, then attach the documents requested for that ground. Review the entries and complete payment if prompted. The official guide shows the application sequence.

Where to go

eForeigner for electronic filing; confirm any in-person method with MUP for your address.

What to prepare

  • eID account and legible attachments requested by the portal
05Track the result and collect the residence document.

What to do

After filing, save the application number and check portal messages and status. If you are scheduled for biometrics, attend the named police unit in person. If the portal or authority asks for additional information, respond by the stated deadline and keep proof of submission.

Where to go

Portal notices; attend the MUP office named in the appointment.

What to prepare

  • Case reference, filing receipt and received notices
  • Applicant’s passport; check name spelling and validity
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.

Renewing a current permit

Step 1

Check the permit expiry and continued basis. Temporary-residence renewal is filed no earlier than three months before expiry and no later than expiry. If the basis ended, contact MUP rather than formally renewing an obsolete basis.

Official requirements for this step

Step 2

Open the requirements for your basis. Check the passport, current permit and current address and basis evidence. The passport must remain valid at least three months beyond the requested residence period.

Official requirements for this step

Step 3

Update changed evidence and prepare legible files. Attachments depend on the basis; check the selected form. Do not replace the requested evidence with your whole archive.

Official requirements for this step

Step 4

In eForeigner select renewal, enter the current permit and basis, review and submit the form and attachments. Where personal filing is permitted, use MUP for your registered address; single permits are filed electronically.

Official requirements for this step

Step 5

Keep proof of timely filing and monitor messages. Timely filing allows staying until the administrative procedure ends; separately check work and travel rights. Answer requests and attend required personal appointments.

Message to the institution

Fill in your details and send this through an official channel shown above. This asks how to proceed; it is not a government form or a completed application. Do not attach originals or sensitive personal data to ordinary email until the institution confirms a safe way to send them.

Hello,

I would like to follow the “Temporary residence based on property” procedure myself. My situation: [citizenship and current status in Serbia], [municipality], [brief circumstances and goal].

Could you please confirm:
1. Which department handles my case and where should I file?
2. Must I use an online service or prescribed form? If so, please send the current link and instructions.
3. Which documents apply to my case; are originals, copies or additional evidence needed?
4. For foreign-issued records, is apostille/legalization and a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač) required? In which order?
5. How should I file, obtain proof of receipt and check status?

Thank you.
