01Distinguish investor, start-up and self-employment

What to do

These are distinct grounds. The official investor page requires invested assets in a Serbian registered company and at least EUR 50,000 in a Serbian bank account. Registering a sole proprietor does not automatically qualify as an investor or start-up; business work may require the single residence/work permit.

Where to go

MUP foreigners unit; company accountant/lawyer for business records

What to prepare

  • Project description, applicant's role and company registration records
02Obtain evidence for the selected project

What to do

An investor obtains company investment evidence and a bank balance certificate. For a start-up, first open that ground in the official application and obtain the project confirmation from the organisation identified in its checklist; do not substitute an arbitrary business plan. Keep source-of-funds records for the bank.

Where to go

Company, Serbian bank and the start-up validating organisation specified in the application

What to prepare

  • Investor: invested-asset evidence and bank certificate
  • Start-up: required project confirmation
  • Serbian address evidence and owner's consent where applicable
  • Health insurance evidence
  • Evidence of maintenance funds
03Complete the official application and keep the receipt

What to do

Select your actual ground, upload legible files, pay using service instructions and check that the application is submitted rather than saved as a draft. A minor's residence application is made in person by the legal representative.

Where to go

eForeigner; for permitted in-person applications, the MUP foreigners unit for the registered address

What to prepare

  • Entry passport and stamped pages
  • Serbian address evidence and owner's consent where applicable
  • Ground-specific evidence, application and payment receipt
04Respond to MUP requests and collect the card

What to do

Monitor application messages. Bring originals and your passport to the appointment; biometrics require personal attendance. Check the issued card and set a renewal reminder, obtaining updated evidence that your ground continues.

Where to go

The MUP unit handling your application

What to prepare

  • Entry passport and stamped pages
  • Original attachments, appointment message and current card for renewal
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.
