01Bring previous records and check identification

What to do

Present the animal and papers to a Serbian veterinarian. Ask them to scan the chip and match its number, owner and vaccination entries; papers with a different chip number are not suitable.

Where to go

Registered veterinary clinic

What to prepare

  • Veterinary passport/certificate, chip number and owner details

First identify your route

  • Check microchip and vaccination records.
  • Prepare for travel from Serbia to another country.
  • Obtain a required certificate from the competent veterinary authority.
02Plan vaccinations without lapses

What to do

The veterinarian determines required vaccinations and records the product, date and validity. Before international travel check what a rabies-vaccination lapse means: an old entry or test does not remove the valid-vaccination requirement.

Where to go

Treating veterinarian

What to prepare

  • Pet passport with previous vaccination dates
03Check the destination country's rules

What to do

Serbia's entry rules do not apply worldwide. Before booking, obtain requirements from the veterinary authority of the destination and transit countries: certificates, tests and timing may differ.

Where to go

Destination veterinary authority; Serbian veterinary inspectorate

What to prepare

  • Destination/date, itinerary and existing records

Example enquiry

An illustrative example, not an official form. Use the prescribed form where required.

I plan to travel from Serbia to [country] on [date] with a [species], chip [number]. Please confirm who issues the required certificate, which tests are needed and when the examination must take place.
04Obtain departure documents from the authorised service

What to do

Present the animal for the required examination and obtain the official document in the required format. Check the chip, dates, signatures and stamps. Keep copies but travel with originals; a passport translation does not replace a required certificate.

Where to go

Authorised veterinarian/veterinary inspectorate

What to prepare

  • Passport, vaccination records, test results and the route's official certificate
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.

Document overview and case variants
