01Choose the legal form and activity.
What to do
Choose a legal form first: an entrepreneur (preduzetnik) or a company (for example, a DOO). This affects registration, taxes and liability; consult an accountant about tax treatment before filing. Check name availability in APR’s register.
Where to go
APR for name search; accountant for legal form and tax treatment.
What to prepare
- Proposed name, entrepreneur/DOO form and activity
02Prepare founder and registration details.
What to do
Prepare the details for the chosen form: name, business address, activities, and founder/director details. Do not use an address without permission to do so; founding-document requirements differ by form.
Where to go
Founder and APR: requirements for the chosen legal form.
What to prepare
- Permitted business address, founder/director details and founding act where required
03Register the business.
What to do
For online filing, check eID and qualified electronic signature, card-reader and signing-app requirements. APR publishes separate guides for entrepreneurs and companies.
Where to go
APR electronic service and its guide for the chosen form.
What to prepare
- eID and qualified electronic signature as required by the service
04Open the relevant account and arrange accounting and tax obligations.
What to do
Start an APR application for the selected form, enter the details and upload required records. Check the current fee in the application and pay as instructed; keep the confirmation and filing number.
Where to go
APR registration application for the selected form.
What to prepare
- Completed application, attachments and current fee receipt
05Obtain the result and check the details
What to do
After APR issues its decision, save it and verify the registered details. Check the separate tax, accounting and banking steps for your legal form; APR registration does not replace them.
Where to go
APR for the decision; accountant and bank for subsequent actions.
What to prepare
- Registration decision and business details
Translation and filing
Translation and certification
Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.
What happens next
File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.
Message to the institution
Fill in your details and send this through an official channel shown above. This asks how to proceed; it is not a government form or a completed application. Do not attach originals or sensitive personal data to ordinary email until the institution confirms a safe way to send them.
Hello, I would like to follow the “Registering a sole trader or company” procedure myself. My situation: [citizenship and current status in Serbia], [municipality], [brief circumstances and goal]. Could you please confirm: 1. Which department handles my case and where should I file? 2. Must I use an online service or prescribed form? If so, please send the current link and instructions. 3. Which documents apply to my case; are originals, copies or additional evidence needed? 4. For foreign-issued records, is apostille/legalization and a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač) required? In which order? 5. How should I file, obtain proof of receipt and check status? Thank you. [Name] · [reply contact]
If an authority requires a prescribed form, use only its current official version.
