01Determine destination and visa type
What to do
This route concerns a visa to another country, not Serbian residence. Start with destination, purpose, every traveller's passport and lawful Serbian status. For Schengen, use the main destination's consulate; equal stays use the first-entry country.
Where to go
Destination country's official consulate in Serbia
What to prepare
- Family passports, itinerary/dates and Serbian residence permits
02Open your consulate's own form and checklist
What to do
Navigate from the official consulate to its visa section and only then to its authorised centre. Check whether it accepts applicants with your Serbian status. There is no universal file for every country; long-stay family visas differ from short tourism.
Where to go
Selected consulate's visa department or authorised centre
What to prepare
- Official category checklist and lawful Serbian residence evidence
Example enquiry
An illustrative example, not an official form. Use the prescribed form where required.
We are nationals of [country], residing in Serbia under [status], travelling for [purpose/dates]. Can we apply in Serbia? Please provide the form, adult/child checklist and appointment link.
03Prepare separate files and child consents
What to do
Prepare each person's own form, passport, photo and trip evidence under the checklist. Align insurance, accommodation and itinerary dates. For a child, check kinship records, parental signatures/consents and translations/legalisation under that consulate's rules, not Serbian residence rules.
Where to go
Applicants, insurer, civil registries and a translator in the consulate's required language
What to prepare
- Forms, photos, insurance, funds, accommodation, itinerary and child relationship/consent records
04Book, attend biometrics and track the decision
What to do
Use the official consular/centre appointment system. Check each family member's attendance requirement, fees and passport return arrangements. Keep receipts and tracking references. A reservation or application does not guarantee a visa; avoid non-refundable spending before the decision.
Where to go
Consulate or its designated visa centre
What to prepare
- Prepared file, appointment, originals and receipts
Translation and filing
Translation and certification
Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.
What happens next
File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.
