01Confirm the family relationship and the sponsor's status.

What to do

Identify the sponsor’s status: Serbian citizen, foreign resident with temporary or permanent residence, or another status. Check separately whether your relationship qualifies for this procedure.

Where to go

Welcome to Serbia: Family reunification; receiving MUP office.

What to prepare

  • Sponsor’s status in Serbia and relationship type
02Check foreign civil-status documents and their formalities.

What to do

Prepare a separate relationship-record list for each applicant, such as a marriage certificate for a spouse or birth certificate for a child. Compare names and dates with passports; clarify any mismatch before filing.

Where to go

Issuing civil registry; filing requirements from MUP.

What to prepare

  • Names and dates as written in all participants’ passports
  • For a spouse: marriage record; for a child: birth record, as applicable
03Prepare translations and supporting evidence.

What to do

Before translation, confirm whether the receiving authority requires an apostille/legalization and a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator. Do not translate unrelated records; follow the list for the specific applicant and status.

Where to go

Receiving MUP office, then a court translator from the Ministry register if certification is required.

What to prepare

  • Complete relationship record and confirmed legalisation requirements
04Submit the application and track the next step.

What to do

For an adult, use the permitted filing method and the prescribed family-residence form. A minor's application must be filed exclusively in person by the legal representative at the competent MUP office. Do not create a child's electronic application by analogy with an adult. Check the attachment list and passport validity.

Where to go

Adult: permitted filing channel; minor: in-person filing by the legal representative at MUP.

What to prepare

  • Applicant’s passport; check name spelling and validity
  • Separate package and relationship/status evidence for each applicant
05Obtain the result and check the details

What to do

Keep each case number and check each family member’s status separately. Respond to requests by their deadlines and attend scheduled biometrics. Confirm the filing rules for minors before visiting; children have separate in-person requirements.

Where to go

Portal or MUP office handling the individual case.

What to prepare

  • Case reference, filing receipt and received notices
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.

Renewing a current permit

Step 1

Check the permit expiry and continued basis. Temporary-residence renewal is filed no earlier than three months before expiry and no later than expiry. If the basis ended, contact MUP rather than formally renewing an obsolete basis.

Official requirements for this step

Step 2

Open the requirements for your basis. Check the passport, current permit and current address and basis evidence. The passport must remain valid at least three months beyond the requested residence period.

Official requirements for this step

Step 3

Update changed evidence and prepare legible files. Attachments depend on the basis; check the selected form. Do not replace the requested evidence with your whole archive.

Step 4

In eForeigner select renewal, enter the current permit and basis, review and submit the form and attachments. Where personal filing is permitted, use MUP for your registered address; single permits are filed electronically.

Step 5

Keep proof of timely filing and monitor messages. Timely filing allows staying until the administrative procedure ends; separately check work and travel rights. Answer requests and attend required personal appointments.

Message to the institution

Fill in your details and send this through an official channel shown above. This asks how to proceed; it is not a government form or a completed application. Do not attach originals or sensitive personal data to ordinary email until the institution confirms a safe way to send them.

Hello,

I would like to follow the “Family reunification” procedure myself. My situation: [citizenship and current status in Serbia], [municipality], [brief circumstances and goal].

Could you please confirm:
1. Which department handles my case and where should I file?
2. Must I use an online service or prescribed form? If so, please send the current link and instructions.
3. Which documents apply to my case; are originals, copies or additional evidence needed?
4. For foreign-issued records, is apostille/legalization and a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač) required? In which order?
5. How should I file, obtain proof of receipt and check status?

Thank you.
