My step checklist and print guide

01Check your status and exchange rules.

What to do

Distinguish temporary driving with foreign rights from exchanging a foreign licence. Rules depend on status and licence validity; do not automatically apply the six-month rule to every temporary resident.

Where to go

Welcome to Serbia and MUP for the registered address.

What to prepare

  • Valid foreign driving licence and residence status
02Confirm the checklist with MUP.

What to do

Contact the MUP driving-licence office for your address specifically about foreign-licence exchange. Prepare the original licence, passport and residence-status evidence; confirm the exact list for the issuing country and category.

Where to go

MUP office receiving the licence exchange application.

What to prepare

  • Applicant’s passport; check name spelling and validity
  • Original licence and category/validity details
03Prepare required translation and certificates.

What to do

Before buying services, confirm court-translator and medical-evidence requirements. If categories or issue dates are missing, ask what evidence from the issuing authority is required. Machine translation is not a certified translation.

Where to go

Receiving MUP office; translator and medical provider according to confirmed requirements.

What to prepare

  • Licence translation and certificates confirmed by MUP
04File the prescribed exchange form.

What to do

Complete MUP's prescribed foreign-licence exchange form and confirmed attachments, rather than a free-form letter. Use the official payment instructions; clarify surrender and collection arrangements before filing.

Where to go

MUP: prescribed application and payment method as instructed.

What to prepare

  • Confirmed package, application and applicable payment receipt
05Collect the licence and check its details.

What to do

Keep the receipt and clarify collection and what document permits driving while awaiting issuance. A filing receipt should not be assumed to replace a licence. Check categories and personal details when collecting it.

Where to go

MUP: collect the Serbian driving licence.

What to prepare

  • Filing receipt; check the name, categories and validity on the result
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.

Message to the institution

Fill in your details and send this through an official channel shown above. This asks how to proceed; it is not a government form or a completed application. Do not attach originals or sensitive personal data to ordinary email until the institution confirms a safe way to send them.

Hello,

I would like to follow the “Exchanging a foreign driving licence” procedure myself. My situation: [citizenship and current status in Serbia], [municipality], [brief circumstances and goal].

Could you please confirm:
1. Which department handles my case and where should I file?
2. Must I use an online service or prescribed form? If so, please send the current link and instructions.
3. Which documents apply to my case; are originals, copies or additional evidence needed?
4. For foreign-issued records, is apostille/legalization and a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač) required? In which order?
5. How should I file, obtain proof of receipt and check status?

Thank you.
