01Record the employer's breach

What to do

Record work dates, unpaid amounts, unsafe conditions or dismissal circumstances. Preserve evidence before losing access to work correspondence.

Where to go

Your records and correspondence with the employer.

What to prepare

  • Employment contract and amendments
  • Payslips, statements and work schedule

First identify your route

  • Salary or employment-contract dispute.
  • Work without proper registration.
  • You need the competent territorial Labour Inspectorate and an evidence checklist.
02Write to the employer

What to do

State the breach and requested remedy: a payslip, unpaid wages or an explanation. If contacting the employer is unsafe, approach the inspectorate directly.

Where to go

The employer's management or HR department.

What to prepare

  • Copy of the request and proof of delivery

Example enquiry

An illustrative example, not an official form. Use the prescribed form where required.

To [employer]. I, [name], have worked since [date]. [Amount] remains unpaid for [period] / [incident] occurred. I request [specific remedy] and a written reply. Attachments: [list]. Date, signature. This is a draft, not an official form.
03Report to the inspectorate for the workplace

What to do

Choose the district office covering the workplace. Identify the employer, workplace, facts and dates; request a submission reference.

Where to go

The district Inspekcija rada office in the official directory; confirm the formal submission method with that office.

What to prepare

  • Report, contract and evidence of the breach
  • Contact details for a reply
04Preserve your right to court protection

What to do

Keep the inspectorate's reply. Recovering money or challenging dismissal may require court proceedings. Check deadlines promptly with a lawyer; do not assume the report extends them.

Where to go

An employment lawyer and the competent court.

What to prepare

  • Dismissal decision, request and inspectorate reply
Translation and filing

Translation and certification

Before translating a foreign-issued record, ask the receiving institution whether it needs a Serbian translation by a court-certified translator (sudski tumač), whether an apostille/legalization is required, and in which order. Requirements differ by country and document. An ordinary or automatic translation is not a certified translation when certification is required.

What happens next

File only through the confirmed method. Keep a copy of the submission, case/application number and proof of receipt. Ask how to check status, when to expect a reply and what to do if more information is requested.

Document overview and case variants
